Russia Loads Second Tanker to Deliver Oil for Cuba
Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilyov, speaking at an energy forum, confirmed the loading of the second tanker and vowed that Moscow would not abandon Havana in its hour of need. Cuba is facing a difficult situation due to a blockade, and Russia would "not leave the Cuban people in trouble," he said.
The announcement follows Russia's Transport Ministry confirmation Monday that the tanker Anatoly Kolodkin had already reached Cuban shores, delivering a humanitarian cargo of 100,000 tons of crude oil — the first such shipment to break through the prolonged blockade.
The arrival of the Anatoly Kolodkin came after The New York Times reported that the United States Coast Guard had permitted a Russian-owned crude oil tanker to complete its voyage to Cuba, following months in which an oil blockade had effectively strangled the island's fuel supplies.
With a second vessel now being loaded, Moscow appears to be moving beyond a one-off gesture toward a sustained supply effort — further cementing Russia's role as Cuba's primary economic lifeline amid tightening American pressure on the island nation.
